On a beautiful day in the green valley, whose sights excited both the athletes and the attending personnel and media, Italy celebrated the return to the success of arguably its most talented representative: Gerhard Kerschbaumer (Specialized Racing Team) took his first victory of the season in style, relaunching his ambitions in view of the Tokyo Olympic Games and the World Championships in Val di Sole, the latter being an even more cherished goal for the Alto Adige native.  

Two back-to-back weekends of World Cup XC has kicked the season off to a fast and furious start for a hungry field making up for lost time, vying for Olympic spots, and striving to beat World Cup records. It’s been anything but predictable as athletes and teams launch into a high stakes season.

Even though the World Cup kick-off in Germany missed the 20,000 spectators usually huddling together around the track, this first stop managed to deliver MTB racing action at its finest.

The MEDITERRANEAN EPIC is the first mountain bike stage race of 2021 in the UCI Hors Catégorie (highest UCI category), held from Thursday, 25th to Sunday, 28th of March 2021 in the picturesque Spanish region of Castellón.
