Men’s Summit Short Review

The Pearl Izumi Summit Short is a noticeably light piece with more technical features than I’d anticipated. Featuring DWR water resistant treatment, 4 way stretch rip-stop fabric, snap and Velcro closure and two simple mesh lined pockets (note: pockets do not allow room for storage).

The polyester is combined with 4% spandex that takes abuse while simply not restricting movement. Almost a crossover between XC and an Enduro short, the Summit is an overall relaxed fit proving ample opportunity for après ride fun. I personally found the inseam too long at 15” (large) almost putting them in the ‘shpants’ category. I particularly liked the adjustable Velcro waist band for a custom fit feel. The Summit does not come with a liner sewn in which I think is one measure of a good short.

This shorts simple design features and paneling will attract many riders. I have ridden these shorts for the early part of the riding season and I can report that I have gotten them muddy, run them through the washing machine, taken several whippers in them and they still look new. Sharp and functional, these MTB shorts will be my go to for the summer.

Launch Jersey

Matching the Summit Short is the Launch Jersey, we picked up a matching black/grey Luanch Jersey to compliement the Summit Shorts. Coming in a relaxed fit with a nice V-Neck, and mesh lower front and back panel the Launch Jersey is comfortable and well ventilated.

The subtle graphics on the upper panels are sublimated and are nice without jumping down your throat. Tucked into the lower right seam on the inside is a swatch of sunglass wipe fabric. Great addition, I just wish I remember that it is there when I need it.
Fit of the Launch Jersey is bang on and the sizing runs true to listed size.
