Alpinestars Bionic 2 Protection Jacket

The Bionic 2 is Alpineatars full extreme protection upper body armor. In a nutshell this is a mesh jacket with hard armor for chest, shoulders, elbows and spine. Designed for the Motocross market the jacket does overlap the Freeride and Downhill Mountain Bike market with it great design and functionality.

• Built with extreme safety in mind the jacket features Alpinestars’ DFD Technology.

“Alpinestars exclusive DFD Technology means this protector is reduced in thickness and in weight: 15mm thinner and 130g lighter than previous technology and yet achieves CE Level 2 protection (CE Level 2 Impact performance (under 9kN transmitted force) in accordance with EN 1621-2). This means the protector offers double the impact performance of a CE Level 1 protector and an ergonomic 5 plate construction contours to follow the natural curve of the back with plates which lock to lessen overextension of the back which is critical in certain accident situations.”

The articulating spine guard is removable and well designed, featuring a padded kidney belt the inverted teardrop shape shell is comfortable and provides a good amount of movement for your upper body.

Although the Bionic 2’s sizing is a bit on the smaller side (I am wearing an XL, I wear a size Large t-shirt) the sizing and portions are well thought out and the jacket fits well. The design and placement of the amour provides unobstructed movement. I had no pulling of binding like I experienced with other brands.

Overall the Bionic 2 is a well-made and designed upper body armored jacket. The Jacket is very comfortable and is built for protection up to the Motocross level. The only downside I felt was the jacket seems to be heavier then my old Dainese. Pick one up and feel your confidence rise.

Opinion: Well made, well designed.
Plus: Comfortable, good protection.
Minus: Feels heavy initially.
