Contests

The best race in May is coming up next week.

2202

Soon Whistler Blackcomb will wrap up the winter season and kick off summer operations, but for a short time the winter and summer worlds will collide with skiing and biking available at the same time. In honor of this transition, Whistler Blackcomb and Kokanee will hold the annual Crud 2 Mud race on Saturday May 21.

Those who enjoy both winter and summer sports at Whistler Blackcomb will have the opportunity to compete as skiers, snowboarders and bikers in one multi-skill testing race. Competitors ski or snowboard from the top of Whistler Mountain to the snow line, where they have to switch to bikes and continue the second half of the race through the Whistler Mountain Bike Park. The race can be completed individually or in teams.

"This race is a lot of fun as it combines two sports that normally wouldn't be paired together," says Brian Finestone, Whistler Mountain Bike Park Manager. "The trade off at the snow line is always entertaining. It becomes a strategy game. You'll even see some people biking down in ski boots to save time."

The event is recommended for strong intermediate to expert skiers, snowboarders and mountain bikers as conditions can be variable. Due to the ever-changing snow conditions, the final course route will be announced at a mandatory racer meeting on May 20 at the Garibaldi Lift Company (GLC) at 5:30pm.

Those looking to compete must register before 2:00pm on May 20. Racers who register before May 15 will save $10 off the registration fee. The registration fee includes a $10 food and beverage voucher (not applicable to alcohol) and an event beer mug for the first 150 participants. Lift tickets are not included in the registration fee.
