The gnarliest mountain biking event on the planet heads back to North Wales, UK in July with the most progressive MTB racers in the world.
Red Bull Hardline returns to Machynlleth in Wales, for what is known as one of the world's toughest part-downhill, part-freeride mountain bike races.
32 riders will push their limits to conquer a brutal course with massive jumps, drops and technical challenges. Here's what you need to know:
- After the expansion to Oceania in February in 2024 with Red Bull Hardline Australia, Red Bull Hardline has now evolved to two editions. The original Welsh race celebrated its 10th anniversary last year with the first-ever Red Bull Hardline in Dyfi taking place in September 2014. The iconic downhill race is an invite-only event for the best male & female MTB riders in the world.
- The part-downhill, part-freeride race described as one of the world’s most challenging mountain bike events is back on familiar ground in its spiritual home of Wales's Dyfi Valley in July. The formidable course is designed by the founder of Red Bull Hardline and MTB legend Dan Atherton, and in 2025 the riders will be greeted by the same course as 2024.
- Hardline has always shone through as a spectacle to admire while technically serving as one of the most challenging feats a rider will ever tackle. The Dyfi Hardline track combines huge freestyle jumps with extremely technical downhill features and riders need to have the skills to handle big jumps and navigate their way through difficult and usually damp forest sections.
- The 'Road Gap' is easily Red Bull Hardline UK's most well-known feature and a firm crowd favourite for good reason. In 2016, the 'Step Up' was introduced, another Hardline's most prominent features. A steel motocross-style ramp was built to serve as the take-off making it a mammoth of a feature.
- The 2025 UK rider line-up includes athletes like Red Bull Hardline AU 2025 winner Jackson Goldstone (CAN), the 'Queen of Red Bull Hardline' Gracey Hemstreet (CAN) and one of world's top MTB freeriders Hannah Bergemann (USA).
- After a season-ruining crash that ruptured his knee ligaments in 2024, 21-year-old Jackson Goldstone took exactly one year to recover, come back, and get the best redemption run ever, riding to victory in an incredible final of Red Bull Hardline Tasmania. Now, he could not be more ready to send it in Snowdonia as well. “My expectations for UK are always high since it’s one of the best events of the season. After a few years off I’m stoked to get my wheels back on Wales dirt! The race track is definitely one of the hardest tracks out there. No other course can blend rough technical and massive jumps that well. My favorite section is the turns in the ferns. The general vibe in Wales is insane. So many people show up out of nowhere and I can’t wait to try and put on a good race for them! "
- For Hemstreet, it's going to be her debut Red Bull Hardline UK race. "Going into Hardline Wales, this is obviously my first year going so I haven’t ridden any of the features yet but watching the other girls conquer most of the track last year I’m pretty confident that we’re going to get through the whole thing this year and I cannot wait to be a part of it. I’m going to go into the event by taking my time and only hitting the features that I know I can do 100%, less risk the better as I’ll still have a few more world cup races to go!"
- Coming from more of a freeride background, Hannah Bergemann sees the event as a chance to check some boxes she hasn't been able to, yet. "Red Bull Hardline is an event I always look forward to because it's a good challenge for me. It's an event that is a bit out of my comfort zone. I approach the event a bit differently than most of the athletes competing in this event, that are more classically trained downhill racers, trying to take one step at a time and check off each feature that I'm ready to try. The ultimate goal would be to do a top to bottom run."
