New Mexico singletrack Stage 1.
Los Alamos delivered a quintessential New Mexico race day, with cool morning temperatures, abundant sunshine, and blue skies stretching across the Pajarito Plateau. With highs in the 70's before a mid-day sprinkle of rain arrived to cool riders off as they finished their race, it was a picture perfect start to the weekend.
The Racing is Already Tight!
The Long Course Open/Pro Women’s field delivered an incredibly close opening stage, with fewer than three minutes separating the entire podium. Deanna Mayles of Colorado Springs, Colorado, claimed the Stage 1 victory in 2:14:41.2, while second and third place finishers were less than 3 minutes back.

On the Long Course Open/Pro Men’s side, Los Alamos local Macky Franklin put his hometown knowledge to work, taking the opening-stage victory, with plenty of action throughout the course between himself and Mike Ziomek.

Macky Franklin, Los Alamos, New Mexico — 1:49:51.6
Mike Ziomek, Albuquerque, New Mexico — 1:51:51.6
Peter Karinen, Tucson, Arizona — 1:57:28.2
Ziomek crossed the line exactly two minutes behind Franklin, while Karinen secured the third podium position with a strong ride through the demanding Los Alamos terrain.
Franklin and Mayles also earned the first individual stage-win payouts of the weekend— New Mexico Singletrack features a $20,000 professional prize purse, split evenly between the men’s and women’s fields, including $500 for each Open/Pro stage winner.
However, the battles aren’t just happening at the front of the pack, the competition across the entire field was just as fierce, with plenty of close finishes and hard-fought rides.
