Crankworx: Canadian Open Enduro

Canadians Dominate as Elly Hoskin and Elliot Jamieson Strike Gold at the Canadian Open Enduro

Closing out the first weekend of the 20th edition of Crankworx Whistler, the Canadian Open Enduro delivered a day of razor-thin margins and breakthrough performances. Under hot August sun, riders tackled five demanding stages, climbing high into the alpine and dropping into some of Whistler Blackcomb’s most iconic terrain.

The race began at the base of Blackcomb and later climbed toward one of the most scenic vantage points in the Whistler Mountain Bike Park – Top of the World. Throughout the day, riders descended through a mix of high-speed bike park trails, raw singletrack, and technical descents before finishing with a punishing top-to-bottom run into the Whistler Boneyard.

Elite Debut Triumph for Hoskin and Jamieson

The women’s race saw a new name rise to the top. Elly Hoskin, last year’s U21 Canadian Open Enduro winner, stepped into the Elite category and immediately made her mark, clocking the fastest time on four of five stages to take a commanding victory.

“I definitely went a little too hard on that last stage and had a little spill. But we hung on to it, so I’m happy,” said Hoskin of the challenges she faced in today’s race.

Fellow Canadian Andréane Lathier Nadeau earned silver, bouncing back from narrowly missing the podium last year. In third, a familiar face from Crankworx socials, Katy Winton once again showed that her racing days are far from over, as she celebrated her return to Crankworx Whistler Enduro racing – her first since 2018.

The men’s competition was a showcase of Canadian depth and talent. BC local Elliot Jamieson took the stage, racing through the final stage – and almost through the race tape as he charged into the finish - to not only claim his first-ever Crankworx Elite podium, but also his first gold.

“[I] kept it smooth. No crashes or mechanicals or anything, and I think that was the key today,” explained Jamieson of his winning strategy. “I felt like I maybe wasn't on the limit, but I was just keeping it consistent, and then, by the end, I knew I needed to turn it up.”

Just behind him, Wei Tien Ho proved incredibly fast, winning three of five stages but missing the top step by less than a second over the entire race. Lief Rodgers capped off an all-Canadian podium with a consistent performance across all stages, crossing the finish line 21.1 seconds slower than Ho. Last year’s winner, Jesse Melamed, lit up stage four with a record-breaking time, but a mechanical in stage two cost him precious time, ultimately landing him in the 31st spot.
